Meals eBook!
Wherever we gather, moms often end up talking about food—good deals, great recipes, sharing our stories and advice. Magazines, TV and the Internet supply a constant conversation about food. Clearly, we think about food a lot!
But being preoccupied with thoughts about food isn’t the same thing as actually feeding our families in a nutritious way. Feeding our families and growing children is one of the most satisfying things we do. Have you watched your toddler eat with gusto? Or had a tween compliment a meal you’ve prepared? Planning and preparing meals can be a wonderful way to nurture our families—but it’s not easy. It takes intention; especially if you want to make good, nutritious choices.

Since you’re reading this, I assume you’re a mom who is motivated to find some answers. Maybe you want information on nutrition that’s not overwhelming and that you can actually implement in your life. Perhaps mealtimes are a scramble and having a simple menu plan would make your days less stressful. Or you’d love some tips on how to not.make.food.a.power.struggle. You wonder if organic food is worth the money. And speaking of money—there has to be a way to use coupons and sales that don’t involve an hour of clipping and pouring over sales fliers each week, right?
Well, bring on Meals: the art and science of feeding your family (made really easy)! I wrote this specifically for you (and me!)—busy moms who realize that if healthy eating is going to happen in our household, it’s up to us. I am the mom and I am in charge of what my family eats. I am the one who is shaping food habits in my children, for better or for worse.
Did you catch that? We’re shaping our children’s food habits. With all the information available about food and nutrition, do I want my kids to feed their families in the mostly hopeful, haphazard way that I was feeding them? I wasn’t doing a terrible job with nutrition, but I honestly wasn’t paying a whole lot of attention to it. We didn’t eat much fast food or sugary snacks. But was that enough?
I didn’t know if I was doing a good job or not. Who has the time to research all the nutrition info? Or figure out how to plan a weekly menu (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) that is nutritious and SIMPLE, especially if you don’t particularly like cooking or if you have a small repertoire of things you know how to cook? I knew that I couldn’t just hope for the best—these were my children I was feeding. The children I wanted to be healthy, and grow healthy and have a healthy relationship with food. I think that’s what all moms want, don’t you?
In Meals: the art and science of feeding your family (made really simple!) we’ll talk about the most common concerns moms have about food:
1) Nutrition—you only need to remember 4 things for you and your family to have good nutrition.
2) Organic food—what’s fact and what’s fiction and how it impacts your budget.
3) Young ‘uns—feeding babies and toddlers. Food adventure!
4) Menu planning—a system that’s easy to implement and use in a real life.
5) Coupons—don’t worry, it’s not what you think! Who has time to clip and organize? But there is money to be saved without a lot of time and effort if you want to.
6) Art—the emotional side of food. Because food isn’t just food. Includes tips on what NOT to do as you focus on better nutrition for your family (hint: it involves keeping the Oreos™)
7) Picky pants—yes, this topic requires its own section. Thoughts and tips to move beyond being a short-order cook and helping your kid become a more adventurous eater.
